Report: President Biden to appoint an 'anti-book ban' coordinator to protect the LGBTQ community

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has had a few press conferences to put to bed the idea that Florida is banning books. He did show the press some of the sexually explicit illustrations from books he doesn’t believe belong in school libraries, but the press won’t pass those images along because they have policies against publishing sexually explicit material.

Ed Krassenstein has some breaking news: President Joe Biden, as part of his strategy to “protect” the LGBTQ community, is going to be appointing an “anti-book ban” coordinator.” This should be a fairly easy gig, as the “book bans” are drastically overstated (moving a book of poetry from the elementary section of the library to the middle school section isn’t “banning” it, as the media reported).

– The White House will hold the largest ever Pride event in history on the South Lawn this evening.
– The anti-book ban coordinator, who has not yet been named, will advise school districts on the legality of banning books.
– This comes after over 870 different books have been banned from school libraries/curriculums this year, which is 30% higher than last year.
– Greater than 25% of the books banned in schools have had LGBTQ themes or characters.
– More than 70 bills that the Human Rights Campaign considers anti-LGBTQ were passed during this legislative session, which is twice as many as last year.

If you can still buy the book it was never banned.

There are many books not in public schools for a plethora of reasons. Many not meeting age appropriate standards. Doesn't mean the book is banned.

Let use the right context instead of misleading those who only read headlines.

We’d love to see Biden sit down on the South Lawn and read “Gender Queer” to a bunch of kids, because keeping the book out of children’s school libraries is apparently harming the LGBTQ community in some way.
