Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg gave a press conference Tuesday after Donald Trump was arraigned and charged with 34 counts that would be misdemeanors, but with a little charge-stacking can be made a felony. A reporter asked Bragg why that mystery felony charge wasn’t included in Trump’s indictment, and Bragg answered that the law didn’t require him to.
Alvin Bragg was able to elevate the 34 counts to the level of a felony by saying they were to “conceal another crime” but didn’t include the crime he claims was being covered up in the indictment because “the law does not so require”

Bragg seems to think the big crime here is Trump trying to influence the outcome of the election by concealing information — which certainly doesn’t sound unique to Trump. But what federal statute does that violate?

I don’t understand how this even works. In the case of these charges, wouldn’t the commission of the ancillary offense (and that offense being a felony) be an essential element of the offense that would have to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt?

The next court date is December 2023.
That means this will most likely drag until the election.
That seems to be the purpose of the indictment.Once the election is over and votes are cast they wont care what the verdict is.

According to New York State law, Bragg can indict former Presidents for process crimes they didn’t commit, over a crime he doesn’t have to tell us about, or prove in the court of law.
