For irony’s sake, we wish it were NBC News and not CNN that placed a reporter in front of a huge blaze in Kenosha with the chyron, “FIERY BUT MOSTLY PEACEFUL PROTESTS AFTER POLICE SHOOTING.” Why don’t they describe the January 6 “insurrection” as a “mostly peaceful” protest?
We thought this might be an opinion piece, but no, it’s straight news reporting from Sahil Kapur.

Were there riots on January 6? Of course — the January 6 select committee made certain that we saw footage of citizens taking on law enforcement. No one is saying there wasn’t violence. But let Fox News’ Tucker Carlson show footage of Capitol Police escorting the QAnon Shaman around the building — something we hadn’t been shown — and suddenly he’s a riot denier. It’s crazy how many journalists seem to be against making security footage public.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Monday released security video from the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, using footage provided exclusively to him by Speaker Kevin McCarthy to portray the riot as a peaceful gathering.

Carlson focused Monday’s segment on promoting former President Donald Trump’s narrative by showing video of his supporters walking calmly around the U.S. Capitol. He asserted that other media accounts lied about the attack, proclaiming that while there were some bad apples, most of the rioters were peaceful and calling them “sightseers,” not “insurrectionists.”
“The footage does not show an insurrection or a riot in progress,” Carlson told his audience Monday. “Instead it shows police escorting people through the building, including the now-infamous ‘QAnon Shaman.’”
Kapur notes that Carlson, for some reason, didn’t show us the footage we’ve already been shown by the January 6 committee.
