This video from Vox reminds us of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez explaining in 2019 why community gardens fail — it’s because we look at them through a “colonial lens.” While everyone is encouraging minority communities to start community gardens and grow their own fresh food, white folks go and colonialize the whole thing by planting cauliflower instead of yucca.
Now Vox goes in depth (we’ll admit we didn’t make it through the whole video) of why “people” are rejecting the name poinsettia in favor of the plant’s native name, cuetlaxochitl. We suspect it’s even fewer people than are trying to push the word Latinx. Anyway, it’s all tied into white colonialism and the Trail of Tears.

In Mexico, they refer to them as nochebuena or flor de nochebuena (flower of Christmas Eve).
Here, we call them poinsettias.
Because people in different countries have different names for things.

"Why people are rejecting the name poinsettia…"
Because they are NPC leftist drones.

Headline says "why people", presenter says "many people", but video provides no evidence of these people. A good copyeditor would've slapped everybody involved for using these phrases.

"people" being nobody.

Poinsettia is named for the person who introduced it to the US, which is a perfectly standard way of naming things cross-culturally as people have for thousands of years.
Another point against this name is the fact that the language in question is literally dead

But it was a cisgender white man, thus erasing the plant’s cultural roots. Really, it’s amazing that they went to this length to produce a video that no one is going to watch.
