We’ve had some bad takes this Independence Day. As we mentioned, some intern for the City of Orlando who forgot their antidepressants wrote that “a lot of people probably don’t want to celebrate our nation right now,” but they’d already bought the fireworks (shades of Hillary Clinton’s preparation for her victory speech). We’ll wager that a lot of conservatives do want to celebrate our nation right now, even with President Joe Biden running it into the ground, because they understand it’s a celebration of independence that’s bigger than any news cycle.
Claire McCaskill was on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” last July and said that her family has a new Fourth of July tradition: watching footage of the January 6 riots at the Capitol.
