Andrew Sullivan has been all over the map when it comes to “family-friendly” drag shows and Drag Queen Story Hour. This week, he noted that “racy, stripper adult drag queens have no place around kids,” but “fun, costumed non-blue drag queens reading to kids is fine.” Can we just make that simple distinction?
We still wonder, though, why men dressed as hypersexualized women have to be the ones reading to kids. Because it’s “fun”?
Sullivan has a further prediction: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will not only defund Drag Queen Story Hour — he’ll also send Child Protective Services after any parent who brings their child to such an event.
Here's a prediction. DeSantis will defund all DQSH public events. And send CPS to any parent who participates even in a private setting. They're at war now. Distinctions don't matter.

Why would the state be funding Drag Queen Story Hour? Public schools are paying these drag queens to come and perform? Couldn’t the teacher read to the students instead?
And progressives will take kids to adult and inappropriate performances to own the cons. Everyone to their most extreme corners!

I predict he will not do the second thing.
— Richard Hanania (@RichardHanania) June 20, 2022
He will definitely not do the second thing. And when he doesn’t, Sullivan will not return to this to acknowledge that he didn’t.

I don’t think he’s that extreme. No one is calling for that. He may defund DQSH but calling CPS is beyond the pale. People just want to be left alone and not feel like an agenda is being pushed on their kids in publicly funded settings.

Second prediction is absurd
— keefer (@keefer1369) June 20, 2022
Hmm. Why is the state funding DQSH events again?
— Searching for sanity (@CfCaridi) June 20, 2022
Good to the first; the second is a questionable use of state power. DQSH are meant to normalize the radical gender ideology being pushed in every corner of the culture…. the pros and cons of which might be appropriate for high school students to discuss but no younger.

Reading your replies and trying to find a single person who agrees with you. Congratulations on the audience you’ve cultivated!

Why are you so invested in DQSH?
— Laura Scholl (@MamaSchollaert) June 21, 2022
That’s such a good question that no one seems to be able to answer. To teach first graders about gender fluidity and family structures?
Yeah, that last sentence is key. Maybe ponder that one and what it might mean to you personally at some point.

Yup. Sucks when your movement/lifestyle/identity is hijacked, mis-represented, and then faces backlash based on lies. Should have tried harder to make those distinctions more clear (instead of all the team spirit) before it got this far, I suppose.

That’s a pretty stupid prediction, though we’re perfectly fine with the first half. Make it so!
