UK study prompts the question, why are Americans so obsessed with constantly washing their clothes?

According to a survey of 2,000 people, one in three Brits admitted to washing their bedsheets just once a year, while 30 percent wash blankets only once a year and 18 percent admitted to washing their jeans annually. Metro, which published a story on the survey, calls the results “gross.”

That prompted a self-described “ally” with a Planned Parenthood avatar and the pronouns he/him/his to weigh in on Americans’ obsession with washing clothes.

Washing clothes and sheets waste a ton of water. Wash items less. Why is the US obsessed with constantly cleaning?

Because we can and because we do not like to be covered in filth and disease. It’s all available thanks to capitalism and the standards that we have set here in the US. Even those in poverty want to be clean.
