We read the text of this tweet before we took a close look at the photo and thought it was a tweet from Liberty District 70 in Lake County, Illinois, celebrating the return of students to in-person learning. It looks like we were wrong, though; the district is just happy to see the multipurpose room back in action, now that plexiglass shields are in place to separate the kids while they eat lunch.
This is almost as bad as that school that zipped members of the school band into little COVID tents.

When you do something incredibly, embarrassingly stupid like this plexiglass, have the sense not to share it on social media. https://t.co/svA8GVMRuH

This is absolutely ridiculous

Even the CDC says plexiglass is not recommended.

But, science!
these poor kids..

There is nothing about this to be proud of. Zero.
You’re hurting kids, socially and psychologically.
At least have the decency to delete the tweet

Absolute disgrace. You are crippling an entire generation of children to continue your safety theater.

Stop this crap.
Your virtue signaling is decimating these kids' mental health.— Michele Blood (@BloodBrief) April 12, 2021
Just cause you CAN do it, does not mean you SHOULD. How long until we see an increase in kids with OCD and anxiety disorders and you'll wonder why?
— Chrissa (@Chrissausa) April 12, 2021
Stupid and child abuse.
— Portiemom ?? (@Portiemom1) April 12, 2021
Child abuse…. On full display. Hope you are saving up to pay for their therapy.
— Sisolak Sucks (@BidenDidNotWin) April 12, 2021
Those poor kids are gonna grow up and (hopefully) take your pensions when they realize what you fools have done to them.

Are you friggin nuts? This is ridiculous. Abuse. Parents need to fight this nonsense. Shame on teachers for thinking this ok.
— NolaMom ????? (@pedsscrub) April 12, 2021
I blame the parents for allowing this

At least these kids are in a room together … that’s progress for some school districts.
