As Twitchy reported earlier, Joe Morrissey won the Democratic primary for a state Senate seat in Virginia, despite the fact that he’s had a, let’s say, colorful past. Instead of telling his story again, we’ll let Comfortably Smug give the short version in the form of one paragraph from Wikipedia.

Actually, he was disbarred twice, after the Virginia State Bar contended that he’d destroyed evidence in the case against him, where he was indicted on felony charges of indecent liberties with a minor, possession and distribution of child pornography, and electronic solicitation of a minor. But you get the picture.
Morrissey’s victory inspired Washington Post columnist Petula Dvorak to write a sarcastic piece arguing that Morrissey’s moral lapses make him the perfect Democrat to go up against Donald Trump in 2020.

Yes, two dozen Democrats already are vying to take down President Trump.
But the proper way to challenge Trump isn’t to aim high with candidates who are experienced and effective lawmakers or Rhodes scholars or Harvard graduates or military veterans — people who have actual plans to solve some of our nation’s biggest crises.
No, this new era of American reality show politics — with a president who has totally rewritten the qualifications for the nation’s highest office — calls for a candidate who can go low with flair. We need a white guy with more dirt, more bravado, more children by more women, more legal drama and the youngest wife possible.
Morrissey, who just won a seat in the Virginia state Senate after pleading guilty five years ago to having sex with his 17-year-old receptionist (and current wife), is that man.
