As Twitchy has reported, Rep. Marsha Fudge has made a bid to be House Speaker, replacing Nancy Pelosi; although a problematic letter that surfaced Tuesday might have scuttled Fudge’s chances.
GQ’s Julia Ioffe wonders why it is that Pelosi if facing so many calls for fresh blood from many of the newest representatives while Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer aren’t.
I’m trying to put my finger on why it is Nancy Pelosi faces opposition and calls for fresh blood but Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer never do. ?

Hmm … could it be … sexism?
? What’s different about her? Hmmm

It’s a mystery. pic.twitter.com/SB6v3FUs1K

psst: she's female.

Sexism, even by other women
— Lou imbesi (@luiginoimbesi) November 20, 2018
can't be a 'female' thing, can it ?? in this day and age ?
— Edward Buzinky (@epbsfo) November 20, 2018
Same reason Hillary Clinton faced opposition.
— Bly (@Dreamn58) November 20, 2018
She’s a woman, pure and simple!
— M.R. “Herb” Mester (@1969herbsuperb) November 20, 2018
Yep, I wonder what it could be. No I don't. It's pure misogyny.
— Kim Lee (@snarkiekimmie) November 20, 2018
Or maybe, just maybe, it has something to do with the differences between the makeup of the House and Senate?
Probably for the same reason John Boehner and Paul Ryan faced challenges…
It's much harder to get House members on the same page due to a larger variety of interests and constituencies. #ThingsThatKillYourNarrative https://t.co/JEFFbiwUpo

Then you clearly fundamentally misunderstand the workings of the house and senate.
— Pinch ⭐️ (@BBPHredux) November 20, 2018
Cause it's a "House thing," for now anyway….plenty of past Senate turmoil tho….but Senate ML does not require a floor vote, just a simple majority from party. If case were same for Pelosi, or Boehner or McCarthy, or anyone in House, would be easier to avoid serious challenges https://t.co/bRu5BuxSWj

Obviously sexism is a big part of this, but Pelosi also needs 218 votes out of 435, of whom 201 are Republicans. Schumer just needs 24 votes out of 47 Democrats.
— John (@johnlk1980) November 20, 2018
If Pelosi only needed 118 votes, nobody would care about Seth Moulton.
— John (@johnlk1980) November 20, 2018
Easy: strong power shift in Congress, but not in the Senate.
— Nick Keytlin (@n_led) November 20, 2018
The Senates a much smaller place.
— Matt Dougherty (@DelawareMatt) November 20, 2018
Boehner had year after year of threats to his Speakership from a minority of the GOP fwiw. https://t.co/ZRePi7H7tb
— Steven Dennis (@StevenTDennis) November 20, 2018
Short answer: B/c the Senate.
Longer answer: John Boehner faced ongoing open opposition 'til he finally quit. Paul Ryan faced open opposition, now he's retiring. House leaders face open opposition; in the Senate, if they face any, it's behind closed doors.https://t.co/jrVBLIwbtt— Ira Goldman ??? (@KDbyProxy) November 20, 2018
Such an effing stupid narrative, we literally 3 years ago had a Speaker ousted/quit due to how many rebels were in his conference. I mean goodness, that Pelosi only has to worry about 16 members is not that big of a deal.
— midwestconservative (@MWC_RS) November 20, 2018
the idea that GOP candidates didn't run against McConnell (literally where "Cocaine Mitch" came from) is absurd
The entire 2016 Primary was a race to "who is the least 'establishment'"

This…isn’t true at all lol.

The obsession with identity politics on the Left has transformed relatively normal people into blithering idiots.
— Giuseppe Franco (@viperstrike74) November 20, 2018
To be annoying context guy here: Chuck's only been in his job for 2 years but Nancy's been the Dem leader for 16, that's not the only reason why people want her to go, but it's a big part of it. https://t.co/sMkyvOft9U
— john Thanks For Voting anderson (@huzzahmpls) November 20, 2018
Plus, wouldn’t a white woman want to step aside to give a woman of color a shot at a leadership position?
Because Schumer is not the majority and McConnell is a highly effective and respected majority leader, it’s got nothing to do with Pelosi being a woman, afterall, Fudge is also a woman. Stop seeing gender bias in everything you look at.
