As Twitchy reported earlier, GQ’s Julia Ioffe, a panelist on Jake Tapper’s CNN show “The Lead,” declared that Donald Trump had radicalized more people than ISIS. She did tweet an apology later (one appended with an, “I will add, though …), and host Tapper made it clear that Ioffe was contrite.
Apparently CNN thinks the idea that Trump is worse than ISIS is up for "debate." Civility! https://t.co/KN7kKSCmnJ

later in the show she apologized and took it back
— Jake Tapper (@jaketapper) October 29, 2018
So now CNN gets to report on Ioffe’s apology, and Tapper is still mopping up her mess.
Panelist @juliaioffe apologizes for hyperbolic comparison earlier in the show https://t.co/VqLJIf5DtE @TheLeadCNN
— Jake Tapper (@jaketapper) October 29, 2018
So she’s done as a CNN contributor, right? She’s really sorry and won’t be given the opportunity to do it again … right?
And you’re speaking for her why?
— H Kirsh (@HKirsh1) October 29, 2018
Good question.
Hyperbole = just plain dumb
— Mike Logsdon (@mdlogsdon) October 29, 2018
Hate speech is now hyperbolic when spoken on CNN
— RonWeddell (@RonMankind) October 29, 2018
Ah, that’s what it was.
— Lulu Lapin (@Lulu_Lapin) October 29, 2018
Not hyperbolic. More like irresponsible and dangerous. (Not to mention downright crazy)
And you just sat there.
Why don’t we trust you? This.
Trump isn’t destroying CNN. You guys are doing that all on your own.— Bonnie O (@bloc52) October 29, 2018
She compared Trump to ISIS.
That’s not a slip of the tongue. That’s a window into her mind. https://t.co/QWeKD38flO
— Bryan Dean Wright (@BryanDeanWright) October 29, 2018
It was a gaffe not hyperbole. She said what she really thought

Why didn't you say something there and then?
— Jim Rose ? (@JimRoseVSOP) October 29, 2018
Fact that u allowed her to go on with such rubbish goes long way in reinforcing public opinion that CNN is biased n rightfully people resent it. You are much better among CNN hosts but disappointed with the free pass you gave when she made those comments
— Aravind (@arav_m) October 29, 2018
You should have stepped in way sooner! This rhetoric is just absurd and should not be tolerated. It creates more hatred.
— Sotiri Dimpinoudis (@sdimpinoudis) October 29, 2018
You provided her cover by having her on as a guest in the first place and then not challenging her irresponsible statement. #ShameOnYou
— Melody Warboo (@rwm52) October 29, 2018
A real news network would have stopped her immediately, and thrown her off the set. But Jake Tapper appeared to agree with her, notice him uttering "uh-hm" after she said it. These people are despicable!
— Mark Dice (@MarkDice) October 29, 2018
You rarely call out anyone. Do it more often and fairly. You’re running short on balance.
— Darla Sansbury (@DarlaSansbury) October 29, 2018
Good job coddling her the entire way
— BloodPundit (@BloodPundit) October 29, 2018
I respect you, Mr. Tapper, which is why it is so disappointing when you don’t confront this sort of outrageous rhetoric.
— DrM (@DrMagnolias) October 29, 2018
hyperbole needs to be kept in check by the moderator.

These panels – while they are cheap programming – almost always offer more heat than light, often make things worse rather than better, and might be usefully shelved in favour of real journalism.
— Jim Coyle (@coylejim20) October 29, 2018
And you got what you wanted… @jaketapper why don’t we go back to just basic reporting? Man I miss the news and I can’t find it on any network.
— Emily Gould Schimek (@Emily_Schimek) October 29, 2018
You knew what insane crap she wrote over the weekend, and she continued the verbal diarrhea on your panel, yet no one said anything until the social media chimed in. Weak.
— mc (@MCat7189X) October 29, 2018
She may have apologized but it wasn’t over the top enough for you to step in proven by you not stepping in to push back. And in the end she didn’t apologize bc her follow up tweet was a, “but I was right” tweet including some thin air stats.
— Mattjohnsun (@Mattjohnsun) October 29, 2018
When this hate filled comment with NO evidence was said on CNN why did no one immediately debunk her and hold her accountable?
Why did it take hours? Why no response from you #Tapper or anyone else at @CNN?#RulesWePlayByNow
— Sean Hodges Connell (@sean_h_connell) October 29, 2018
Maybe you should take her off the airways until she figures out what she actually means.
— Pete Adler (@rockies325) October 29, 2018
Jake, she does this constantly gaining the attention she craves. Your show is too good to air her blather. Thank you for what you do, but please try to limit the number of bomb throwers from both sides.
— Mark Halvorson (@mhalvorson76) October 29, 2018
Republicans pounce!
"The Republican National Committee is jumping on your comments…"
Yeah…I guess it became imperative to do "some housecleaning" once it was evident her remarks would be publicized as typical of MSM lunacy ?#RepublicansSeize #MediaBias #IntellectualDishonesty
