Did you know that Texas Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke skateboards and used to be in a punk band and is kind of reminiscent of a young Kennedy? Of course you do, if you’ve read any of the million puff-pieces that have been done about him.
If you’ve been to any of his rallies recently you also know that his mom’s a lifelong Republican. There’s more to that story, of course, just like there was more to O’Rourke’s drunk driving story that didn’t quite mesh with the official police report.

His mom voted in Democratic primaries in 15 of the last 17 primary elections, including Democratic party primaries in 2000, 2008, 2012, and 2016 that included presidential primaries.
