'I will stand for you': Glenn Beck offers friendship to James Gunn; Ted Cruz calls old tweets 'truly evil'

As Twitchy reported Friday, “Guardians of the Galaxy” director James Gunn was let go by Disney (the parent company of Marvel) after some of his old tweets and blog posts were dug up after he joined the mob in shaming Ben Shapiro after actor/director Mark Duplass innocently suggested his “fellow liberals” follow Shapiro for an honest look at the other side of the aisle.

Seeing as Shapiro was at the epicenter of this social media hurricane, it’s important to remember that Shapiro came out in defense of Gunn, saying he shouldn’t be fired over old tweets, which are filled with some really bad jokes about child rape and pedophilia. Sen. Ted Cruz collected a number of them and was not amused:

Gunn came out admitted he “used to make a lot of offensive jokes,” but he doesn’t anymore and apologizes for being such a “provocateur.”

Shapiro wasn’t the only conservative to come to Gunn’s defense; Glenn Beck actually extended a hand of friendship to Gunn and said he stands by him.

The irony is that’s just what Duplass was trying to do: encourage his followers to reach beyond their comfort zone and be kind. He reached across the aisle and had his hand bitten off by rabid liberals for the effort.

For what it’s worth, Gunn was part of the mob that tried to get all of Laura Ingraham’s advertisers to pull their spots — you know Beck knows what it’s like to be on the wrong end of a boycott.

Wow, Beck’s not having much luck convincing his followers that supporting Gunn is the right thing to do. But we’re certain a bunch of liberal celebrities will come out of the woodwork and praise Beck for his principled stand … right? Anybody? Bueller?
