As Twitchy has pointed out, there are plenty of Republicans calling President Trump’s joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Finland, quite the dumpster fire — Sen. John McCain called it “one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president in memory.”
Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas), whose seat is up for grabs in the midterms, posted quite the thread from his vantage point as a member of the House Intelligence Committee and a former CIA officer.
As a former CIA officer and a Congressman on the House Intelligence Committee, I can affirmatively say there is nothing about agreeing with a thug like Putin that puts America First.

The President is wrong. Russia interfered in the 2016 election and seeks to undermine our democracy.
— Rep. Will Hurd (@HurdOnTheHill) July 16, 2018
Since 2016, I have called on Obama and Trump to take action against Putin. We should not start trade wars with our allies and play nice with communist tyrants. https://t.co/Bue9St7zzE

I've seen Russian intelligence manipulate many people over my professional career and I never would have thought that the US President would become one of the ones getting played by old KGB hands.
— Rep. Will Hurd (@HurdOnTheHill) July 16, 2018
To all our allies: there are still many of us in Congress that know Russia is not just an adversary to the United States but to freedom loving people everywhere.
— Rep. Will Hurd (@HurdOnTheHill) July 16, 2018
To be fair, Trump’s public remarks (which weren’t good) don’t exactly line up with his administration’s policies on Russia: he’s expelled Russian diplomats, sold lethal arms to Ukraine and criticized Germany for pouring billions into Russia’s economy through the Nord Stream II pipeline.

Still, Mother Jones’ David Corn told Hurd what he could do besides tweet:
Then hold hearings on Trump protecting Putin. Now. https://t.co/1DBt5zEnsQ

We’ve already had an investigation for 2 years.
— Toxic Normalcy (@cskainr) July 16, 2018
Yeah, we’re not expecting any hearings as a result of the presser, but fantasizing gives the Left something to do today.

Yes, do that.

Ask him to resign or advocate for impeachment. It's long past time for action. https://t.co/ALk9Q9V51W

Congressman, what specific actions — perhaps informed by your prior service as an intelligence officer — will you take as a member of the House of Representatives to counter the manipulation you cite and to respond to the position of the President that you describe as "wrong?" https://t.co/gFkqaOPv2g

The congress needs to do whatever is most expedient in removing this president from office and reclaiming America.

We all knew Russia helped, and we all knew Trump won, it's safe to say Russia helped him win?

Can’t argue with that logic.
So the rats are testing the water temp before abandoning the ship. Do something or you will all be branded as traitors.
— Patricia Enochs (@penochs2) July 16, 2018
We sure are seeing the words “treason” and “traitors” today — even as a CNN analyst wonders when that shadow government is going to step up and take control.
Seems as though Rep. Hurd is hearing from his new base of supporters.
We need more than words from you Congressman.

Start. Impeachment. Hearings. Now.

More empty words. Stop bloviating and DO YOUR JOB! You took an oath…uphold it or STFU. If you aren't fixing it, you are complicit. We WILL remember that you spouted but failed to act. https://t.co/Ht7RY2JZ52

— Mad Hatter (@elrond50) July 16, 2018
But once again you said nothing of any importance just blah blah blah. Take action or shut up.
— Scott Dworkin (@funder) July 16, 2018
Exactly, we need action. Put our laws & our Constitution to work already. That is what they are there for. Evil is not following any rules & moving fast, time is of the essence & November is too far away.

Oh look, it’s 2020 hopeful John Kasich, from whom we were all waiting to hear.
Good for Congressman Will Hurd to put Country Over Party. Americans should speak now with ONE voice. Russia is not our ally. https://t.co/FMUixlON8D
