BAD TASTE: Senate candidate jokes that GOP's 'thoughts and prayers' stopped school shooting

A lot of Democrats are already making speeches about the school shooting in Parkland, Fla., Wednesday, but Shane Morris, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate from Tennessee, didn’t stop to give thoughts and prayers to the victims — instead, he grabbed a video camera and made a live Periscope video joking that he had “fantastic news” — “thoughts and prayers stopped the entire shooting right in its tracks.”

“Nobody got injured, nobody’s gonna die,” he continued, knowing the lockdown was still on. He actually breaks character to laugh at his own cleverness every now and them.

Just for context, consider that at 3:15 p.m., word was that there were up to 50 casualties:

Morris went live with his video joking that, because of prayer, “nobody got injured, nobody’s gonna die” — at 3:21 p.m. He certainly can jump on a crisis — maybe he will win a Democratic Senate seat.
