Alarming: Newsweek still publishing, treating Anne Frank Center as a credible source

When most of social media is buzzing about the nuclear war with North Korea that could break out at any minute (and that North Korea has been threatening continuously for decades), it’s tempting to lapse into nostalgia and long for a simpler time when comparisons of Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler kept the media occupied.

The Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect, which has raised its profile since Trump’s election by demanding Sean Spicer be fired “for engaging in Holocaust denial” and asserting that saying “All Lives Matter” is like telling African-Americans to drop dead, was at it again Monday, tweeting a list seemingly comparing Trump to Hitler. No one tell them that President Obama created his own media called “West Wing Week,” OK?

Newsweek was convinced those alarming parallels deserved coverage, especially coming from such a renowned source as the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect.

Newsweek did add some value to the tweet by including a statement from executive director Steven Goldstein pointing out that the tweet didn’t “directly compare Trump and Hitler” but rather pointed out parallels between the Trump administration and Germany in the 1930s.

Goldstein also said equating Trump and Hitler “would trivialize the Holocaust” — although Trump apparently had chosen a Holocaust denier to serve as his press secretary.
