School suspends 5-year-old girl for turning a stick into a gun on the playground

It looks like the “Toaster Pastry Gun Freedom Act,” proposed by a Maryland state senator after a Baltimore second-grader was suspended for two days for biting a Pop-Tart into a vaguely gun-like shape, might have come in handy in North Carolina this week, where a 5-year-old was suspended for a day for turning a stick into a gun.

WTVD-TV reports that Caitlin Miller and two friends were playing “King and Queen” on the school playground when she picked up a gun-shaped stick to defend the royal couple from invaders — a violation of the school’s no-tolerance policy toward assaults, threats, or harassment from any student.
