It wouldn’t be the first party to be cancelled because of Donald Trump, but at least the organizers of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner won’t be stuck with stacks of custom-printed President Hillary Clinton napkins.
It’s not the first time the idea’s been floated, but as the war between President Donald Trump and the media reached a full boil Friday, ABC News’ chief political analyst is calling for the White House Correspondents’ Association to either cancel its “Nerd Prom” this year or have it without the president.
In support of the first amendment and in unity with all journalists the @whca should either not invite President Trump or cancel the dinner.

OK, cancel it.
Seriously, the most compelling event at last year’s dinner was watching the late Carrie Fisher’s therapy dog, Gary, dragging his butt around the red carpet. Or, if you were a fan, it was watching as President Obama literally dropped the mic. Unfortunately, comic Larry Wilmore then picked it up.
Even if the celebrity-studded dinner goes on, both Vanity Fair and The New Yorker have canceled their parties, although TBS’s Samantha Bee will be holding an alternative event called … wait for it … “Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.”

Not only is Trump endangering the lives of journalists, he is undermining a key component of our Constitution. Conservatives: where are you?
— John Weaver (@jwgop) February 18, 2017
Where are conservatives? They sure as hell aren’t at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Cancel it or what?

agree. Having the dinner as usual is normalizing Trump. They can't do this.

Might as well let that presidential mic drop echo though history as it should.
Funny, though, how no one today seems bothered by how the Obama White House froze out news photographers, or how it signed off on a criminal investigation of James Rosen, seized his and his parents’ phone records, and fought to conceal the warrant from him, or how it attempted to stealth-edit one of his questions out of the video archives and blame it on a “glitch.”
