There’s probably a good reason NBC News had Chelsea Clinton doing feel-good puff pieces for the network rather than investigative reporting; comments she made over the weekend about marijuana while campaigning for her mother in Ohio have some asking the fact-checkers to get to work.
Marijuana.com wrote up a summary of Clinton’s visit to Youngstown, Ohio, last weekend, where she spoke before a group of college students. Writer Tom Angell expressed concern that Clinton, whose father tried marijuana but famously didn’t inhale, was spreading misinformation about marijuana and drug interactions.
After praising some of marijuana’s medicinal benefits, Clinton added a caveat: “We also have anecdotal evidence now from Colorado where some of the people who were taking marijuana for those purposes, the coroner believes, after they died, there was drug interactions with other things they were taking.”
Anecdotal evidence, also known as the best kind.

But … this is coming from the party of science. Hillary Clinton even declared, “I believe in science” during her historic acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention.

Marijuana is weird; well, especially when it intersects with politics. Bill Clinton tried it but didn’t inhale, and he wouldn’t lie about something like that. Fast forward to 2016 and the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where President Obama joked about how he hadn’t been so high since “trying to decide on my major” (a gag preserved on the White House website for generations to enjoy).
Add to that the complicating factor that President Obama has been commuting the sentences of literally hundreds of non-violent drug offenders (even those with firearms violations as well) because he believes drug sentencing as it stands is outdated, unfair, and results in racial disparity in prison populations. That’s a lot of pressure on Hillary Clinton from the pro-legalization crowd, and they’re paying attention.

Yeah, NBC found that out pretty quickly.

I think Chelsea said that some coroner in Colorado said that somebody who died had medication that mixed lethally with marijuana?
