Lucky break: WikiLeaks dump gives Dems an excuse to downplay Debbie Wasserman Schultz at DNC

If WikiLeaks’ release of nearly 20,000 hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee harmed anyone in particular, it’s party chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Just as the party was appearing to enjoy some movement toward unity, Bernie Sanders’ campaign manager in particular let the media know he was feeling the burn, with the leaked emails revealing a coordinated attempt to undermine Hillary Clinton’s only competition.

With the party’s convention just around the corner, timing couldn’t be worse for the party, but there is a silver lining: rumor is that Wasserman Schultz will no longer have a major speaking role at the convention, meaning the Democrats have an excuse to move her out of the spotlight. CNN’s Jeff Zeleny reported Saturday night that the party’s chair might be looking more like that empty chair from the GOP’s 2012 convention.

She’s helped enough already, according to plenty of Democrats.
