Hmm… Tech staffers disabled security features to troubleshoot Hillary Clinton's email server; Updated

Bernie Sanders made it clear in the Democratic primary debates that he was sick of hearing about Hillary Clinton’s damn emails, but a lot of people can’t get enough. No, literally, they can’t get enough: Clinton’s tech guy, Bryan Pagliano, invoked his Fifth Amendment right 125 times Wednesday while being deposed in a civil case filed by Judicial Watch.

Now, the Associated Press is reporting that the IT staff at the State Department disabled security features on Hillary Clinton’s personal email server in order to troubleshoot an apparent software conflict on her server, emails released to Judicial Watch reveal.

The AP reports:

State Department staffers wrestled for weeks in December 2010 over a serious technical problem with then-Secretary Hillary Clinton’s home email server, causing them to temporarily disable security features that left the server more vulnerable to hackers, according to emails released Wednesday.

Just weeks later, according to previously disclosed emails, hackers attacked the server, forcing Clinton’s staff to shut it down. The next day, one of Clinton’s closest aides, Huma Abedin, wrote to other high ranking staff: “Don’t email hrc (Clinton) anything sensitive. I can explain more in person.”

It turns out that not a lot of people knew about Clinton’s server at first, with aides like Cheryl Mills having to act as go-betweens to ask if it was OK to give out Clinton’s “private” email address to people requesting it, like the White House chief of staff.

Read plenty more about the most recent developments in Judicial Watch’s case at its website.

Update:

Sorry about that; the information can be found by following the Judicial Watch link, but we’ll quote it here, because it is big, no question.

On January 9, 2011, the non-Departmental advisor to President Clinton who provided technical support to the Clinton email system notified the Secretary’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations that he had to shut down the server because he believed “someone was trying to hack us and while they did not get in i didnt [sic] want to let them have the chance to.” Later that day, the advisor again wrote to the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, “We were attacked again so I shut [the server] down for a few min.” On January 10, the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations emailed the Chief of Staff and the Deputy Chief of Staff for Planning and instructed them not to email the Secretary “anything sensitive” and stated that she could “explain more in person.”

While we’re at it, these posts are worth revisiting. Remember when news broke in 2015 that Russian-linked hackers had made at least five attempts to deliver malware to Clinton’s server, which resided outside of the government’s network? Hillary for America’s Brian Fallon wrote off the news with one tweet:

That’s funny. The Daily Beast’s senior entertainment editor also thought the “news” was LOL-worthy.

And this January, Hillary Clinton herself put to rest any rumors that her personal email server had ever been hacked.
