While American news broadcasts Friday were almost entirely dedicated to the snowstorm hitting the East Coast, Canadians were trying to figure out why a 17-year-old suspect killed four and wounded seven others in two separate shooting events at two crime scenes.

The suspect, who has not been named, was arrested at gunpoint after a chase through La Loche Community School in Saskatchewan, where he is accused to shooting nine people, two fatally. The two killed, Marie Janvier, 21, and Adam Wood, 35, were both teachers at the school.

Two brothers, Dayne and Drayden Fontaine, age 17 and 13, were found dead in a nearby home.

Police will not confirm the shooter was related to the two brothers; however, at least one classmate in a tweet has named an older brother as almost certainly the suspect in custody.

The suspect allegedly posted a chilling message on social media that he was going to “shoot up the school,” but friends took it as a joke.
