'Did you mean "Zamir begin"?': CNN's search engine confused by name of murdered Bosnian

As Twitchy reported earlier today, a Google news search for Zemir Begic, the man beaten to death by a group of teens wielding hammers in St. Louis on Sunday, turned up Twitchy as the top result for news on the murder, followed by local Fox News affiliates.

A handful of Twitter users asked when mainstream outlets like CNN would be covering the horrific and senseless murder. As it turns out, CNN did file a brief story on its website, including a Spanish-language version on cnnespanol.cnn.com, but a search of CNN’s own website first pulls up an episode of “Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown” and asks, “Did you mean ‘Zamir begin’?”

This looks like one of those local news stories that is destined to stay local, unless social media can pull together the influence to shame the U.S. media into covering it.

Speaking of local media, there’s even more to the story than the murder of Begic.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that another Bosnian, Suad Nuranjkovic, fled Begic’s car when it was attacked and hid in a parking lot:

Seldin Dzananovic, 24, said the teens with the hammers approached him farther north on Gravois about an hour before the attack on Begic. He said he was able to fight them off, suffering only cuts to his hands and neck.

“I’m just lucky,” he said. “God is on my side.”
