Conan O'Brien's 'Muslim female superhero' joke doesn't fly with fans

@ConanOBrien Really? We get a female Muslim super hero and you decide to diminish this victory with a cheap and tasteless joke? Disappointed

It’s true that Marvel Comics is introducing a Muslim-American superhero, a rather typical New Jersey teen who takes on the role of Ms. Marvel. Marvel had higher hopes for the character, though, than what emerged from Conan O’Brien’s tweet tonight, which didn’t fly well with many fans.

For what it’s worth, here’s the new Ms. Marvel, who’s a 16-year-old high school student.

Cue CAIR apology demand in 3,2,1 “@ConanOBrien: Marvel has a new Muslim Female superhero. More special powers than her husband’s other wives

@ConanOBrien A little more digging would alert you to the fact that Ms Marvel is a 16-year-old Muslim American. Sorry, lost respect, CoCo.

@ConanOBrien "Female Muslim"? Is that like a "Lady Doctor"? You're relying on the sensationalism of others to avoid taking a stance.
