White House confirms Attorney General Eric Holder is staying on for second term

The revolving door at the White House is seeing a lot of action this month, with Labor Secretary Hilda Solis being the latest to announce that she’s taking her talents elsewhere. Just last week, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner gave notice that he’d be leaving by the end of the month. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is expected to resign, but she’s been a bit hard to pin down lately. So, who’s staying on to move the country forward and — more importantly — maintain that critical measure of diversity?

As long as we’re apologizing, we too are sorry, people, that Eric Holder is staying on for at least several months. He gave us hope back in November (briefly) that he’d be part of the second-term rush for the exits, telling a group of students that he was considering leaving. “Do I have gas left in the tank? It’s been an interesting and tough four years, so I really just don’t know,” Holder told them. A tough four years? Not as tough as the last two years for Brian Terry’s family.

So what’s keeping Holder around if he’s running on fumes? Well, the nation’s fever to grab guns from its citizens, even if it takes executive orders to do it, might have provided the necessary second wind.

Looks like it’s going to be an “interesting and tough” year for all of us.
