Rep. Chaka Fattah: GOP's 'attack' on president over Benghazi harmful to troop morale

OK, it’s time to let Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, the maker of that anti-Muslim video no one actually saw, out of jail — a Pennsylvania Congressman has found the guilty party in the whole Benghazigate mess: Republicans and Fox News.

Obama’s deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter let us know two weeks ago that “the entire reason [Benghazi] has become the political topic it is, is because of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.” Her boss told a Denver TV reporter essentially the same thing just today, saying that details will have to wait because “the election has nothing to do with four brave Americans getting killed and us wanting to find out exactly what happened.”

Today Rep. Chaka Fattah (D-Pa.) also pointed the finger at Republicans (and Fox News) for politicizing the tragedy. Not only are Republicans hurting the president and his re-election chances; they’re also hurting troop morale by demanding the truth from the Commander in Chief.

Fattah’s original tweet on the subject was deleted for some reason.

New reports suggest that multiple requests for military assistance were denied as the Benghazi attack was taking place, and twice today the president has dodged questions, saying that more than a month later, “we are finding out exactly what happened.” We’d suggest the president’s ignorance or incompetence on this issue is a much more serious threat to the morale of the troops (and their families) than Fox’s “attacks.”
