California Gov. Gavin Newsom is having a good old time on Twitter today, jumping online to compare Rep. Jamaal Bowman to Emmett Till and gloat over 2,000 jobs that will apparently be moving from Florida to California. Except there aren’t going to be 2,000 new jobs. The project has been canceled, not moved to California. They’re not building it anywhere.
Turns out, bigoted policies have consequences.
That's 2,000+ jobs that will be welcomed back with open arms to the Golden State.
Thank you for doing the right thing, @Disney. https://t.co/1wrN2Zmi9O

The insufferable Ben Collins of NBC News didn’t read past the headline, did he?
I recommend you read the Blue Check comments here.
The far-right simply doesn't understand how Terminally Online they are—and they're taking the GOP with them.
The state just lost 2k jobs because powerful edgelords think Moana has gone woke.
Most people don't think like this. https://t.co/F9VmRctOi2

Note the New York Times’ headline: “Disney Pulls Plug on $1 Billion Florida Investment Amid DeSantis Feud.” Not because of the feud with Gov. Ron DeSantis, but amid a feud with DeSantis. Pretty sneaky.
Here’s DeSantis responding to the news:
NEW: Press office for @GovRonDeSantis responds to Disney canceling Lake Nona:
"Given the company’s financial straits, falling market cap, and declining stock price, it is unsurprising that they would restructure their business operations and cancel unsuccessful ventures.” pic.twitter.com/Pf15IB8tfT

Maybe Disney doesn’t have a spare billion at the moment.
Anatomy of a PR move:
1) Disney is still investing 17Billion in Florida. But leading with that helps DeSantis.
2) So they lead with the part about cutting a project NO ONE WANTED anymore after the old CEO was canned.
3) Anti-RDS morons run with that part. Ignoring the $17B.

Just a few weeks ago, Igor announced $17 billion investment in Disneyworld.
6 days ago, Disney announced poor earnings. https://t.co/00c5lXKNXp
Today Disney cut back the announced investment by 5.8%.
This isn’t about DeSantis – it’s about business. https://t.co/uhny750oxk https://t.co/Tx0roey8HM

Read far enough into the story and you'll find the real reasons Disney pulled the plug: 1) It was a Chapek brainchild which Iger hated; 2) affected employees didn't want to move; 3) Disney is losing money and the first two reasons make this an easy cost-cutting move. https://t.co/fpezHiJfO9

This consistent "poor @Disney" framing is the media running PR for a gigantic, multinational corporation that is fighting to keep special privileges & circumvent legislative action. It's unreal—and speaks directly to the times we live in. @GovRonDeSantis is right in this fight. https://t.co/BnKUOgZT4p

Disney is hemorrhaging money and people think it’s some own they cancelled a project they couldn’t afford to continue.

No one builds office buildings anymore. To invest $1 billion on an office building in 2023 would be economic suicide. I think I heard a once valued $300 million dollar office building in SF that no one will touch for $60 million. Lol

Damn that DeSantis, crashing the commercial office space market pic.twitter.com/i0x3xZn517

“New” CEO is taking drastic action to right the ship. Cost cutting is a no-brainer.
Why invest millions in office space when it’s already available for pennies on the dollar all over?— Barbarian Steve (@Redpot86) May 18, 2023
The “2,000 jobs” decision, involving not pursuing a complex to house transplanted “imagineers” from California, in truth seems to have nothing to do with Florida or DeSantis. But Disney is blaming DeSantis as cheap cover for reversing a Chapek initiative that Iger doesn’t like.

This has nothing to do with DeSantis:
A) Disney is losing money because it has alienated its core audience aka Get Woke, Go Broke
B) Like most companies it has to cut jobs in anticipation of a recession
C) This expansion was the brainchild of the ex-CEO https://t.co/9C0fdu3jGp— Miranda Devine (@mirandadevine) May 18, 2023

Disney cancels a $1 billion project thought up by the previous CEO that no one really wanted anyway. But it’s actually Disney punishing DeSantis over his “anti-LGBTQ” agenda.
