Listen, this editor was pretty dispirited the other night when his timeline was nothing but Donald Trump supporters and Ron DeSantis supporters trying to sink each other. Meanwhile, the DNC is so committed to the Biden/Harris ticket (yes, he’s running again) that they’re not even going to hold primary debates. So much for seeing Gavin Newsom going toe-to-toe with Biden to see which one has ruined their state or country more.
Word is also out that Trump is saying “no” to debates, and Charles Garparino has a rumor which sounds pretty feasible to us, considering the attacks Team Trump has rolled out against DeSantis.
BREAKING: My GOP sources with ties to Florida's GOP leadership say the rumor is @realDonaldTrump plans to go to Tallahassee and kill this bill to totally derail @GovRonDeSantis running for prez. It's getting nasty! https://t.co/fVt36amPej

WESH reports:
Gov. Ron DeSantis seems to have his next run for office in mind, as Republican Senate leadership filed a bill Thursday to “revise laws relating to elections.”
GOP leadership will likely be attempting to rewrite the law as they did for former governors Scott and Crist to allow them to run for federal office while maintaining the flexibility to be governor.
Currently, F.S. Chapter 99 reads: (4)(a) Any officer who qualifies for federal public office must resign from the office he or she presently holds if the terms, or any part thereof, run concurrently with each other. (b) The resignation is irrevocable.
The law otherwise prohibits the governor from running for federal office without resigning his state office. WESH does not report, however, that Trump is headed to Tallahassee to lobby to keep the restriction in place — that’s where the rumor comes in.
Gee I didn't know Trump has a vote in the Florida legislature. Explain more Mr. Gasparino.

Based. If DeSantis wants to run, he should resign and take the risk like a man.

This is so weak. If he's so much better then why not debate him?

If the FL legislature falls for this Trump antic, they are worthless

He’s become a full on coward. He’s afraid of Desantis and he’s even afraid of Neil Cavuto. We want this guy in charge of the free world? No way I’ll never vote for him again.

Trump is working harder to stop DeSantis than he is to stop Democrats.

He keeps telegraphing who he fears.
— Brenda Frost (@BrendaFrost18) April 25, 2023
He has expended zero effort on Republicans who’ve actually declared for 2024.
But I thought Ron DeSanctus was tanking the polls? Why would Trump need to go through all this trouble for somebody so beneath him?
— Based Barry (@BasedBarryFan) April 25, 2023
Why is it so hard for both parties to find presidential candidates that are not so cringy?

A lot of people are pointing out that the Resign-to-Run Law doesn’t apply in this situation.
I may be missing something, but it looks like Federal offices are already exempt from the law. It is similar to how Federal offices are exempt from our term limits laws here in Florida. I don’t know what they need to change. pic.twitter.com/P0mS9U8koJ

The resign to run law doesn’t apply to federal candidates
— potato (@thepotatoguy00) April 25, 2023
So it’s just a rumor?
Desperate Donald had not been a good look.
Also, Trump's friend, Charlie Crist, infamously ran for federal office (Senate) through Election Day while still Governor, so really this is just a nice to have.

Please use BREAKING RUMORS when posting these weird statements.

So it seems to be a rumor and nothing more … let’s see if any news outlets pick it up or if it just runs its course on Twitter.
