There’s a lot going on in the world of obesity Monday. As Twitchy reported, a self-described fat vegan named Leah argued that the term “obese” is a slur “because it is used to dehumanize us and harass us.” We’d been under the impression that “obese” was the nicer way to call someone fat. And over at Twitchy sister site HotAir, David Strom looks at the push to have obesity included under the umbrella of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, or DEI.
CBS News is reporting that the American Academy of Pediatrics is recommending that “doctors should offer adolescents 12 and older who have obesity access to appropriate drugs and teens 13 and older with severe obesity referrals for weight-loss surgery.” Why? Because “waiting doesn’t work,” and obesity could spiral out of control if left untreated.
Children struggling with obesity should be evaluated and treated early and aggressively, including with medications for kids as young as 12 and surgery for those as young as 13, according to new guidelines released Monday. https://t.co/FCgpts1JjM pic.twitter.com/qPas5d9OBF

CBS News reports:
The guidelines aim to reset the inaccurate view of obesity as “a personal problem, maybe a failure of the person’s diligence,” said Dr. Sandra Hassink, medical director for the AAP Institute for Healthy Childhood weight, and a co-author of the guidelines.
“This is not different than you have asthma and now we have an inhaler for you,” Hassink said.
They’re out there giving 13-year-olds double-mastectomies to supposedly keep them from committing suicide, so yeah, it’s just another tool.

We’ve sort of tuned out the American Academy of Pediatrics ever since its advice on masking 2-year-olds.
Maybe they should just be tossed outside to run around

This is why it's becoming harder and harder to "listen to the scientists."

And you wonder why people call you “enemy of the people”?

What happened to encouraging your kids to exercise and not feeding them junk food? Childhood obesity isn’t an issue in most other countries. It’s almost unheard of.

It’s called exercise. Eating healthy. Parents being parents. Last thing these kids need a surgery and more pharmaceutical drugs..

I was overweight in 2nd grade. My father had me sign up for wrestling and made sure my diet was healthy. I was a perfect weight within a couple months.

Or have them play sports and stop drinking Mountain Dew and Cheetos every day.
The best medication is exercise. Stop telling kids everything can be fixed with surgery.

All of our energy should go towards prevention…big pharma/big health insurance would rather “manage” health issues since that means meds and treatments for the entirety of someone’s life. But prevention would unburden society so much more

Go outside and play. Run around until they can barely keep their eyes open. It works better than anything else and is much better for long term health and longevity.

We see a lot of people recommending good parenting over pills and surgery.
