Back in July 2021, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced that Haitian and Cuban migrants and asylum-seekers who tried to enter the United States by boat would not be allowed to enter the country. “If individuals make, establish a well-founded fear of persecution or torture, they are referred to third countries for resettlement. They will not enter the United States,” Mayorkas said.
Tens of thousands of Haitians then proceeded to hit Mexico first and cross the border on land and were released into the U.S. on a “very, very large scale.” (Let’s not even talk about those Haitian migrants who were “whipped” by Border Patrol agents.)
This summer, after Gov. Ron DeSantis flew 48 Venezuelan migrants to Martha’s Vineyard, MSNBC’s Chris Hayes wondered if DeSantis would pull this “disgusting stunt” for Cuban asylum seekers. DeSantis won’t have the chance, because the Coast Guard has intercepted them and returned them all to Cuba. It seemed like a bad joke, but it’s true; if you cross from Mexico, you’re good. If you arrive by boat, sucks for you.

They should have floated to Mexico, than they can walk in without fear of being returned….how in the hell does that make sense?
— Jim Melia (@JimMelia5) December 28, 2022
…yet, if they walk across the border, they’re fine. Unbelievable.

Someone tell them the border is wide open.
No issues there.

Those are the anti-communist refugees—— send them back!
— 19Delta (@19comid) December 28, 2022
Those would likely to be future GOP voters. The current administration has no need for them. Don’t need people that actually experienced leftist policies speaking out against them.

This is weird as I have been reliably informed by Twitter tankies that Cuba's healthcare and literacy rates are the envy of the world so why would you try to escape this socialist paradise with nothing but a raft and a prayer?

Where they will promptly be put in prison by a brutal government, unlike most of the other countries that they welcome with a gift bag and a cell phone!

For crying out loud, can someone get these folks to Mexico so they can come here illegally properly.
— Jerp (@Jerpdaddy) December 28, 2022
Lt. Ives,
I was an inshore guide for 20 years. I hid from inclement weather. I avoided the open seas. I sought the lee when the cold fronts came.
These brave people fled a communist state into the face of the things I dread, to a land where we're just sending them back to hell?

Let’s pretend the Rio Grande is a sea.

Why is the Coast Guard bragging about this?
