Rep. Adam Schiff, who’d never say anything without the evidence to back it up, recently tweeted that since Twitter’s acquisition by Elon Musk, slurs against blacks had tripled and slurs against gay men were up 58 percent.
On Elon Musk's Twitter:
– Slurs against Black people have tripled
– Slurs against women are up 33%
– Slurs against Jewish people are up 61%
– And slurs against gay men are up 58%These numbers are abysmal – and unacceptable.

First, we doubt it. And second, are they just counting words as “slurs” or are they considering them in context? How many blacks are using “slurs” against other blacks?
The Center for Countering Digital Hate, which we regard as highly as Schiff, says racist hate has gone up a whopping 202 percent. That’s actually less than Schiff had claimed.

The Center for Countering Digital Hate reports:
On Friday, Musk tweeted to claim: “Hate speech impressions continue to decline, despite significant user growth!”
However, we found:
- There have been 3,876 daily tweets mentioning the racist n-word on Twitter, up 202% on the average daily rate in 2022 before his takeover of 1,282
- There have been 3,964 daily tweets mentioning the homophobic term f****t on Twitter, up 58% on the average daily rate in 2022 before his takeover of 2,506
- There have been 17,937 daily tweets mentioning the misogynist term c**t on Twitter, up 33% on the average daily rate in 2022 before his takeover of 13,514
- There have been 5,117 daily tweets mentioning the transphobic term t****y on Twitter, up 62% on the average daily rate in 2022 before his takeover of 3,159
