Just a few days ago, MSNBC’s Chris Hayes explained what Democrats and the president meant when they said that “democracy was on the ballot.” In short, “If you don’t elect us this time, if you don’t keep them out of power, you may never be able to elect us again.” If Republicans win a majority, they’ll fix all of the boards of elections so that there will never be another election — it will be the authoritarian state Republicans crave. The only way to save democracy is to vote Democrat.
Hayes has some thoughts on Election Day about what’s looking to be a major victory for the GOP.
While we all wait for returns, some thoughts about my expectations for today and the implications, at the broadest level, for American democracy.

First I think the Republican party poses a serious threat to American democracy and has turned away from democratic norms and towards authoritarian delusions and aspirations. That said…

I don't think a GOP victory this week signals the End of Democracy. There's no final, definitive moment. There will remain many means of democratic resistance to authoritarian aspirations that the broad pro-democratic majority will have to use:courts, protest, elections, etc

So he doesn’t think a GOP victory this week signals the “end of democracy.” Then what was this nonsense six days ago?

He’s realizing it’s going to be awkward when Dems lose tonight and people aren’t being loaded onto trains tomorrow morning.

He didn't think anyone saw that.

To be fair, I don't think many people did.

Sir, are you implying that Chris Hayes may have overstated the actual threat to our very democratic system?

My favorite ever election-season Hayes flip was in 2016, when he went from “Republicans must let Hillary govern!” to “We’ll need to use every last tool of Madisonian resistance now” within the space of about five hours.
— Charles C. W. Cooke (@charlescwcooke) November 8, 2022
Noooooo!!!!!
You people PROMISED that if we vote in the GOP then we'd get The End of Democracy.
Now we have to continue listening to you blather on about the need to elect Progressives?
I feel digitally raped by this. https://t.co/gIQYO8CKNH

@MSNBC Really MSNBC. This guy is a disgrace.

I voted today to end democracy as Democrats want it.

Maybe Hayes was just reporting that President Joe Biden, for the second time, was having a tantrum about Republicans and there being only six days to save democracy. But Hayes is still counting on the #Resist movement to protest, mostly peacefully.
