Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg floats an idea to prevent deadly train crashes

It was a deadly weekend for trains. CNN reports that on Sunday, an Amtrak train passing through an intersection without crossing gates in rural Brentwood, California, collided with a passenger vehicle, killing three people and causing major injuries to two others. On Monday, an Amtrak train derailed in Missouri, killing at least three people.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was on NBC News Tuesday night to talk about the accidents, and gave his suggestion for how to reduce their numbers:

Makes sense, sort of. So we just eliminate railroad crossings?

The obvious solution is to eliminate cars and make everyone commute by train.
