As you know by now, Warner Bros. Discovery has decided to pull the plug on paid subscription service CNN+ only a month after it launched. A lot of people in media are cautioning us about gloating — these are people who worked their tails off only to have the rug pulled out from under them … after selling a ridiculously small number of subscriptions. We pointed earlier to a tweet from CNN head of strategic communications Matt Dornic that hasn’t aged very well.
Breaking: @CNNplus employees bracing for layoffs possibly as soon as May amid projections of lackluster sales of new streaming channel; CNN employees say new streaming channel could be merged into larger @discoveryplus as early as May unless subscriptions pick up 130 @FoxBusiness
— Charles Gasparino (@CGasparino) March 30, 2022
For the record, we are VERY happy with the launch of CNN+ and are only bracing for a long run of success.

Glenn Greenwald reminds us:
"For the record!" — CNN spokesman @mdornic, just *3 weeks ago*, vehemently denying a report that CNN+ was off to a much slower start than expected, insisting things could hardly be going better (🤣).
Their corporate shills are as reliable as their on-air personalities. pic.twitter.com/xsJBEzD1DZ

Dornic has found someone at whom to vent his frustration, but we’re featuring this tweet because Dornic puts “report” in quotation marks in reference to Gasparino’s tweet, which turned out to be 100 percent true.
Stop pretending like you don’t know that “report” published 48 hrs after the service launched, which is also when the very first subscription was sold. You also know the merger had not closed and new leadership had not taken control of the company.

So that’s the spin. The “report” was … accurate?

The merger wasn’t announced yesterday it was last year yet your leadership still went through with this disaster. If you guys were doing well maybe they would’ve kept it anyways but the fact is nobody is going to pay to watch CNN when they don’t even watch it when it’s free

Dude Matt you are an idiot. CNN is behind HGTV and the hallmark channel in ratings… If you were a legit news outfit you might still have a job after 4/30/22

For the record, people used to like CNN before they became the leading spokesmen for the Democrat party. Bring back crossfire

Pwned bro. Just stop. @ggreenwald has ended you.
— Dr. Nakamoto (@Dr__Nakamoto) April 21, 2022
Bro, just stop. It's easy to blame others for our failures but you need to own it.

At what point do you shut up and take the L, Mike?

Put. The. Shovel. Down. 🤡😂🤣😅 #CNNPlus pic.twitter.com/w2Jj4EyjfT

Your optimism makes this even more sad. Why would you think cnn+ was going to enjoy long term success?
— wylde oskrëtu (@blaine_libert) April 21, 2022
It is kind of said. They’re all blaming new management for pulling the rug out from under them as if they were on the cusp of adding a few million subscribers if they just hung on for another month or so.
You failed and we all knew you would fail. Take the L.
