We’re seeing Kwanzaa greetings from some curious places (the College Republicans?) but it’s no surprise to see Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and her partner post a video Kwanzaa greeting. A lot of people are finding the choice of music — “Joy to the World” — a little odd, among other things.
The seven principles of Kwanzaa are as important as ever and should be a guide for all of us.

A Christmas song in the background for a holiday celebration, that rejects Christmas. And steals from Chanukah. Amazing.
— John Keeton (@keetojm) December 27, 2021
Is that a Christmas wreath in the background?
— smellmy 🦶🏾🦶🏾 (@wusapbiatch) December 27, 2021
Why is a Christmas song (Joy to the World) playing as the background music for this?
— Nightingale (@solovei7) December 27, 2021
Joy to the World is playing in the background. 🤡

The Christmas music is a nice touch, but don’t they have any Kwanzaa songs you could play for a little authenticity?

I don't care how popular y'all think this is, Festivus is king, as it crosses all racial, political and socio economic boundaries.

Annual reminder Kwanzaa is as real as Scientology or "Latinx". It was made up wholesale by American academics as an attempt to manufacture tradition fully formed without without heritage. It is not typically celebrated in any African country.

Someone needs to come up with the seven principles of Chicago Kwanzaa.
