We’ve seen a few elected representatives weigh in on the Kyle Rittenhouse trial, but it’s something for a sitting congressman to declare that Rittenhouse should be locked up and the key thrown away. Aren’t politicians supposed to pretend to defend due process?

It was also last summer when Rep. Ayanna Pressley tweeted that Rittenhouse was a “white supremacist domestic terrorist.” And President Biden featured Rittenhouse in a video calling him a white supremacist.
What happened to the whole thing about criminal justice reform, prison abolition, the evils of the carceral state, the inherent pro-prosecution bias, rehabilitative justice?

I also don't believe the people saying this have watched much or any of the trial. They're instead demanding a now-18-year-old be imprisoned for life because they know their political followers want to hear that or they're looking for positive social media attention: both gross.

This actually all started with Russiagate. They wanted people like Michael Flynn imprisoned for years for a "crime" — lying to the FBI — that liberals like Ruth Bader Ginsburg long argued shouldn't even be a crime. The only crime they want punished is rejection of liberalism.
