The hashtag #WhitePower was the top trend on Twitter Saturday night after a tweeter posted a still shot of a cadet throwing what he was certain was the “white power” symbol — the one that was made up by the trolls at 4chan to see how far they could get it to spread in the media. Both USA Today and the Wall Street Journal are on it, and maybe other outlets as well.
Here’s one take:
People who think cadets were throwing up a #WhitePower sign and not playing the circle game are fucking morons.

Remember this spring when the Chicago Cubs banned a fan for life for allegedly flashing the “white power” symbol? We’re doing that again.
Seems like a big jump to conclusions. Looks more like the made-you-look “circle game” (hands are positioned down instead of up) than an OK sign (which some co-opted & trolled into a white power symbol). Maybe someone should ask what they were thinking before melting Twitter down. https://t.co/0a1frGLtRZ

On the other hand, Blue Check Twitter making broad assumptions of racism based on groupthink characterizations of video clips has never gone wrong before, so full speed ahead I guess.
— JERRY DUNLEAVY (@JerryDunleavy) December 15, 2019
You’d better believe it.
USA Today is now accusing military students at the Army-Navy game of flashing a white power symbol — since it is upside down it looks more like the gotcha-made-you-look “circle game” than it does an OK sign (which some have tried to co-opt & troll into being a white power sign). https://t.co/NvvnuhlV1m

As far as I can tell, this is the tweet which sparked this story. https://t.co/jpGnkFIEmZ

I will be holding you to this tbhhttps://t.co/XusQmGmIwb https://t.co/N7Lqtn2V99

He’ll definitely apologize … we should probably get a screenshot of that tweet.
As we said, the Wall Street Journal is on it.
Ben why doesn’t your piece point out that they all made the hand gesture upside down such that it looks more akin to the made-you-look-gotcha “circle game” than it does an OK symbol? Why not at least accurately describe their actions at a bare minimum? This simply makes no sense. https://t.co/SEgZKySio2

Townhall columnist Kurt Schlichter is not pleased with the coverage.
This bullshit where liberals attempt to define innocuous gestures as hate crimes is simply their way of asserting power by causing others to take their lies seriously.
The proper response is a middle finger gesture.
— Kurt Schlichter (@KurtSchlichter) December 15, 2019
Psst: Because leftist jerk offs declare something a "hate symbol" does not mean it is.
Screw them.
— Kurt Schlichter (@KurtSchlichter) December 15, 2019
President @realDonaldTrump should relieve the entire chain of command at either academy if either buys into the scummy leftist slander by people who hate our troops and who seek to acquire power by lying about our troops.
— Kurt Schlichter (@KurtSchlichter) December 15, 2019
This is a scummy slander by leftist liars trying to defame our troops with the lie that an innocuous and common hand gesture is some secret symbol used by entities like the Democrat-created KKK.
Screw off, liars. https://t.co/6Z95iFpjox
— Kurt Schlichter (@KurtSchlichter) December 15, 2019
Liberals are always super quick to assume that our troops are racists.
Why do they hate American warriors so much?
Prediction: Not a single Democrat politician will defend our troops from these lies.
Not one.
Remember in November.
— Kurt Schlichter (@KurtSchlichter) December 15, 2019
This is a warning to the media…
If you Convington the cadets, you will be held accountable in court in front of a jury and not in your comfortable, sympathetic blue enclave venue.
Do not participate in the defamation of these American heroes.@RonColeman @pnjaban @Barnes_Law
— Kurt Schlichter (@KurtSchlichter) December 15, 2019
You bastards will not Convington these cadets.
— Kurt Schlichter (@KurtSchlichter) December 15, 2019
Too late.
Not a single liberal has the integrity to stand up for our troops.
Not one. https://t.co/bNHWlTErSM

Chrissy Teigen is curious:
Let’s pretend for a second these people really are doing the white power/white nationalism hand gesture. What does it even do for anyone? Do you get points for each time it’s seen like? Is there a boss out there keeping score? Or is it like paging someone? pic.twitter.com/sZKdcDo4hW
— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) December 14, 2019
Yes, we get points for every time it triggers dumb, hysterical, reactionary tweets like this one.
Figured it out yet? https://t.co/UiyYMHIEVJ

Sorry, kiddos. Circle Game's done and dusted. https://t.co/7yc7uF73CH

I can’t believe they done did ruined the circle game. My nephew is 10 & plays this game with his friends shit I still play it. Nothing like punching your friend for a good reason. https://t.co/JHMyQ0cAjv
— Aunt Bina (@suuhbrinaa) December 14, 2019
Once again it amazes me how people can trigger themselves with stupid conspiracy theories. Do you really want me to play every nba player hitting a three and flashing that same gesture? Get a grip and stop being stupid on this issue. https://t.co/LJjXe0XqkK

The Wall Street Journal assures readers that top brass are looking into it:
“We’re looking into it,” said Lt. Col. Chris Ophardt, a West Point spokesman, soon after the sign appeared on national television Saturday afternoon. “I don’t know what their intention is.”
“We are aware and will be looking into it,” said Annapolis spokeswoman Cmdr. Alana Garas.
The Pentagon didn’t respond immediately to a request for comment.
Good for the Pentagon.
