#WhitePower trends after cadet at Army/Navy game flashes 'circle game' symbol

The hashtag #WhitePower was the top trend on Twitter Saturday night after a tweeter posted a still shot of a cadet throwing what he was certain was the “white power” symbol — the one that was made up by the trolls at 4chan to see how far they could get it to spread in the media. Both USA Today and the Wall Street Journal are on it, and maybe other outlets as well.

The Wall Street Journal assures readers that top brass are looking into it:

“We’re looking into it,” said Lt. Col. Chris Ophardt, a West Point spokesman, soon after the sign appeared on national television Saturday afternoon. “I don’t know what their intention is.”

“We are aware and will be looking into it,” said Annapolis spokeswoman Cmdr. Alana Garas.

The Pentagon didn’t respond immediately to a request for comment.
