We’ve already had a post today on a Twitter blue-check who considers having a son probably his biggest life regret, so let’s turn the other direction, to a woman who loves her son enough to ask YouTube’s CEO what she’s going to do about her son watching Ben Shapiro videos online.
Recode’s Kara Swisher brought up the Ben Shapiro problem at the Lesbians Who Tech summit in San Francisco in a talk with YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki. She had the head of the company right there to discuss child safety online and had a personal beef to bring up. We’ll just quote Swisher:
My son, who is 13 years old, started watching Ben Shapiro videos. And he’s like the gateway drug to the next group. And then it goes right to Jordan Peterson, then it goes down and in three clicks he was in Neo-Nazi stuff. It was astonishing. And then I had to listen to it at dinner. And I was sort of like, “I’m going to kill Susan Wojcicki first.”
Wait, it gets worse. Speaking of her son, Swisher defeatedly said, “He’s lost.” But Wojcicki was there to pick up the pieces:
No, we can work on your son here, I have a son too and I get some of these discussions also at the dinner table. I think what you’re describing is — and the way we think about it, too — look, there’s a set of content that has to meet the community guidelines. Ben Shapiro is going to meet the community guidelines. I don’t think you’re suggesting that we remove him from the platform. Are you?
“I would, but I can’t,” Swisher replied.
Shapiro, the Internet’s most famous neo-Nazi Jew, spoke up on his own behalf:
.@karaswisher, I'm glad your son watches my videos! It seems rather illiberal of you to ask YouTube to ban my videos. @susanwojcicki, I'm pleased that you aren't interested in banning me; you probably shouldn't give in to people who lobby you to ban those they don't like. pic.twitter.com/jGDwD5jueC

Here's the entire interview, in which @karaswisher can't seem to get over the fact that her son watches my videos. https://t.co/omQ9yl2CMP

BTW, I wouldn't ask for @karaswisher's content to be banned even if I could! Because that's ridiculous.
— Ben Shapiro (@benshapiro) March 11, 2019
.@karaswisher is also deeply perturbed that her son has watched @jordanbpeterson videos. And she suggests that Silicon Valley must do something about this Big Problem. pic.twitter.com/5U5IYQ3pdU

Hey, @SusanWojcicki, would love to have you on the Sunday Special to discuss these and other issues. If you've got time for Recode Decode, perhaps you could spare an hour for one of the top-rated shows in the country.

Won’t somebody think of the children! They’re on YouTube watching … Ben Shapiro videos!
Literally discovered @jordanbpeterson last night and was binging his videos then saw he had a debate with Ben and nearly fell off my chair I was so happy. SUCH a great debate on The Rubin Report. The 2 made 2 hours feel like 20 mins. Her son has taste I see, well done kid.

I worked for Kara for a spell several years ago. She’s a nice person, but an extreme leftist. She espoused her leftist views loudly and often. It’s no surprise her son is reaching out for different viewpoints. I’m sure his home life is a 24/7 indoctrination camp.

Maybe you (@KaraWisher ) should ask your son why he thinks something.
and listen to him. If you believe that you have raised him correctly. Then he should be able to point out what he likes or dislikes. The question is if you are able to listen without reacting.

Helicopter mom, trying to get a YouTube channel banned for having different political views lol
— Austin (@AustinCoates1) March 11, 2019
Ironically enough, she is a classic example of the Oedipal mother archetype that @jordanbpeterson regularly discusses. God forbid her son is exposed to diverse cultural, political, and philosophical views… The Left motivated me to always be open-minded. What happened?!

You, is that you’ve actually raised a son who can think independently. What you think is a failure is actually a huge success! The boy can think! #accidentalparenting

Ben I’m 15 and 5 months ago I knew nothing of politics but then I saw one of your clips and I was addicted. I listen to your show everyday and watch videos constantly. While I am a Christian you have inspired me to do better with my faith and stay true. Thank you so much.

Ben you saved my sons life. He was on marijuana daily, until we watched one of your talks and he instantly became obsessed with you. He watches every episode of your show and even has posters of you on his wall. He tells me he hasn't smoked marijuana since last April. God Bless

When children make woke quotes they are the repositories of all innocent wisdom and everyone should listen. Watch one Jordan Peterson/Shapiro video, they’re easily manipulated and too dumb to know what’s good for them.

I’m pretty sure that @karaswisher 13 didn’t realise that her son started to make his own bed after listening to @jordanbpeterson

Ben the worst part was whe she walked into her sons room and it was clean. The horror!
— Brian W. Crumley (@Yelmurc) March 11, 2019
What’s the worst that could happen, he starts thinking for himself?!?! Cleans up his room?!?! Bye bye Oedipal mother… ????
— Jeremiah (@therealjdodrill) March 11, 2019
So… does that mean she demands her son NOT clean his room?
JBP has such a non-controversial core message, I don't get how anyone can be against it.— The Stay-at-Home Ghost (@SAHGhost) March 11, 2019
Because three clicks later, you’re a neo-Nazi.
Ben Shapiro is the Nazi gateway drug? That's a big stretch.
— James Bennett (@TheRealJamesFB) March 11, 2019
This dolt suggests you aren’t smart….she has no idea about your credentials or education. I’m astonished by some of these people.
— Stewby (@stewby_doo) March 11, 2019
Must be distressing to have your children grow up and start thinking for themselves, realizing all your brainwashing didn't hold.
— Wilson (@Brisney_land) March 11, 2019
We now live in a world where the rebellious option for kids is to be conservative and it upsets their middle class parents.
— Hi, I'm Steve. (@StevieMac26) March 11, 2019
Let's just ban everyone from making videos if we disagree with their viewpoints….
— Jay Farber (@JayFarber) March 11, 2019
I’m still trying to figure out everyone’s problem with you.
— Ray (@Ray_V77) March 11, 2019
Even the Anitfa goons who set cities on fire because a local campus has invited Shapiro to speak couldn’t tell you their problem with him.
Can’t I even get an honorable mention?!
For real though, the paranoid desire to ban everyone they dislike is out of control.
Right underneath the faux-tolerance of progressivism is a twisted authoritarianism. https://t.co/B6ddLB1eMX

Seems Swisher’s got another bug up her butt, and it’s Peggy Noonan.
The pattern of Twitter mobs and spirit of accusation and humiliation are reminiscent of the Chinese cultural revolution, writes @peggynoonannyc https://t.co/QJ8gXg6tRH via @WSJOpinion
— Peggy Noonan (@Peggynoonannyc) March 8, 2019
Sorry @Peggynoonannyc, I utterly disagree this tired trope by a range of fainting columnists on Twitter mobs. It’s different if it is organized bot attacks or calculated hits. But if you’re in the arena and say/do something stupid, suck it up and deal if real peeps get irked. https://t.co/LtXS1oGq5z

I remove my cap at your sage words. I do not deserve your notice. I apologize for the column I wrote, which is not the column you think I wrote but so what Wise Arbiter. #StruggleSession https://t.co/sawlT2mMLy
— Peggy Noonan (@Peggynoonannyc) March 11, 2019
Peggy…
Kara Swisher is WAY WAY more arrogant than you.
— AmericanFounder (@1stAntinomian) March 11, 2019
No! She heroically obscures her generosity of spirit in order to protect others in the larger struggle. Her imperiousness is a facade. She would only ban that which would endanger us! https://t.co/H2jomqQqYc
