Remember poor Bowe Bergdahl, the Army sergeant who deserted his post in Afghanistan and ended up captured by the Taliban? When we’d checked in on him last November, a judge had decided he’d serve no jail time for endangering his comrades who had to enter enemy territory to search for him.
He was dishonorably discharged, but then there was the question of whether he was entitled to up to $300,000 in back pay and benefits.
But what about the five Guantanamo Bay prisoners President Obama exchanged for one American deserter? The Military Times has an update:

An official Taliban spokesman says the five have joined the Taliban’s political office in Qatar; nice that they’ve found work.

Everyone knew this was going to happen. Obama traded these five high ranking Taliban officials to get back a deserter who betrayed and maybe even conspired against his country. Brave young men died trying to save Bergdahl. The traitor and the terrorists now both walk free.
