Circuit court judge blocks Deerfield, Ill., from banning 'assault weapons'

You might remember that the village of Deerfield, Ill., a suburb of Chicago, voted in April to “ban the possession, sale, and manufacture of assault weapons and large capacity magazines to ‘increase the public’s sense of safety.’” Residents were given until June 13 to turn in their banned firearms or be fined $1,000 a day.

The ordinance stated that the possession, manufacture, and sale of assault weapons in the Village of Deerfield “is not reasonably necessary to protect an individual’s right of self-defense or the preservation or efficiency of a well-regulated militia.”

The Free Beacon’s Stephen Gutowski is reporting Tuesday night, though, that a circuit court judge has blocked the ordinance.

That “nobody is coming to take your guns” line has been disproved more than once.

Well, they had to do something to “increase the public’s sense of safety” in the midst of nationwide “assault weapon” paranoia — why not just confiscate all the scary guns?
