On Monday, Oregon State changed its law regarding gas pumping. Under House Bill 2482, gas stations that reside in a county with less than 40,000 are allowed to have self-service gas stations.
KTVL in Medford, Oregon posted a status on Facebook asking fellow Oregonians how they felt about the change in law.
The Facebook post sparked quite the debate…and a rather hilarious one at that.
“No! Disabled, seniors, people with young children in the car need help. Not to mention getting out of your car with transients around and not feeling safe too. This is a very bad idea. Grrr,” Cathy Dahl commented.
There are plenty of people who have pumped gas their whole life and never had any issues.
“I’ve lived in this state all my life and I REFUSE to pump my own gas. I had to do it once in California while visiting my brother and almost died doing it. This a service only qualified people should perform. I will literally park at the pump and wait until someone pumps my gas. I can’t even,” Mike Perrone said.
OH NO! You’ll meeeeellllltttt.
“Not a good idea, there are lots of reason to have an attendant helping, one is they need a job too. Many people are not capable of knowing how to pump gas and the hazards of not doing it correctly. Besides I don’t want to go to work smelling of gas when I get it on my hands or clothes. I agree Very bad idea,” Tina Good mentioned.

It’s not that hard. You unlock your gas tank, pick up the gas pump, put it in the gas tank, push the button and pump. The machine handles the work for you.
Some of the comments on Twitter, however, were HI-LAR-I-OUS.
I’ll never know the privilege of pumping my own gas. I live in the civilized part of central Oregon.

Touche.
Oregon's @KTVL posted a story on Facebook about Oregonians pumping their own gas. The resulting panic from the natives in the comments was glorious: https://t.co/V3DP05Vzys pic.twitter.com/bIoOBq6Hi0

Do it for the CHILDREN!!!!
Took me 2-3 months to get acclimated to pumping my own gas when I moved here from Jersey. I feel you, Oregon. pic.twitter.com/5fihw5Hygn

You WILL get through this, Oregon.
Are people in Oregon really that soft?? We’re out here pumping gas in sub zero temperatures

Translation: Put your big girl panties on and fill ‘er up!
I’m going to need an Oregon native explain to me what they think pumping gas entails. Apparently only skilled and experienced gas pumping technicians can perform this death defying task

As long as you can turn a knob, push a button and pull a lever, you should be good to go.
