This story was brought to my attention by someone who knows me well enough to know I've written extensively about the dangers of DEI in healthcare, and that it's a story taking place in my backyard.
For over a year, I've written about these deadly practices at places like Duke Medical School, where they abandoned all metrics for hiring surgeons in the name of DEI and at UCLA, where students are required to take classes on 'structural racism' and many can't run basic tests for things like sepsis.
The Left insists we need DEI to elevate more BIPOC doctors, arguing that health outcomes for patients improve when they have a doctor who looks like them. The studies on which this assertion is based are questionable, at best, of course, and I notice the Left doesn't push for White doctors to care for White patients (that would be racist in their eyes).
But there is plenty of real-world evidence that simply having a first responder who looks like you doesn't mean you'll live. Here, I think about the L.A. firefighter who blamed the victims for her lack of ability to rescue them; she might not be strong enough to drag you from your burning house, but at least she checks intersectionality boxes, right?
The University of Wisconsin (UW) medical school has decided to go all-in on admitting Black students at higher rates than more-qualified Asian students in the name of that DEI.

Here's more from the College Fix (emphasis added):
The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health accepts black applicants at a rate six times higher than it does Asian applicants, despite lower average Medical College Admissions Test scores, a medical advocacy group recently reported.
However, the public university denied that it accepts applicants based on their race when contacted by The College Fix.
The report 'Skirting SCOTUS Part III: How Medical Schools Continue to Practice Racially Conscious Admissions' by Do No Harm analyzed 2024 admissions data from 23 medical schools, including the University of Wisconsin’s.
At the Wisconsin medical school, it found that 'a black applicant has nearly 10 times the odds of admission compared to an Asian or white applicant with the same MCAT score and GPA.'
Admitted black applicants averaged MCAT scores in the 62nd percentile, while white and Asian admits averaged scores in the 86th percentile, according to the report.
A page on the medical school’s website states that 'diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are top priorities,' and that it aims to build programs that 'reflect' the communities it serves. Its admissions page also highlights that 28 percent of the students who are admitted are “underrepresented in medicine.'
Now, I know the Left will dismiss me as an evil racist Right-winger, of course but I can't help but note these policies are not just deadly, but they're incredibly racist.
And not in the way you might think. Yes, they're racist against Asian medical school applicants. That's a given.
But they're also racist against the Black communities the UW intends to serve. By admitting underqualified, incompetent students to medical school -- with the intention of sending them into minority communities -- they are ensuring more Black patients will suffer adverse medical outcomes and, yes, die in the name of woke. They also expect these communities to accept a lower standard of care in exchange for having a doctor with similar skin color.
Don't believe me, but take this physician's word:
I have intimate knowledge about this and have posted about it...

50% of the DEI/AA students (full ride, with stipends) flunked boards one year (20/40). 20% of the rest of the class (20/100) flunked our year. The DEI/AA flunks were tutored and babied via administration to pass…
While DEI demands we ignore racial differences in healthcare, to the point where they messed up the kidney transplant list in the name of 'equity,' I cannot. Black patients are more likely to have complex health conditions and comorbidities, including hypertension, heart disease, stroke, Type 2 diabetes, obesity, chronic kidney disease, liver diseases, Sickle-cell anemia, cancers, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Managing these conditions requires competent doctors and health care teams who understand these disease processes, basic human anatomy, and proper courses of treatment. Instead of creating a class of doctors who can provide high-quality care to these communities, places like UCLA are instead churning out candidates who can't run basic tests to identify conditions like sepsis. Sepsis kills, and kills quickly.
That's the scariest part of all of this: the Left will let you die instead of giving up their virtue signaling and woke ideology, regardless of your skin color. When -- not if, but when -- that happens, the Left will also scream about problems with 'systemic racism' and demand more radical 'solutions' to a problem of their own creation.
We need to continue exposing this ideology, root and branch, wherever it exists. Far too many lives are at risk not to, and it's imperative to end the soft bigotry and racism this ideology inflicts on the rest of us.
