I am endlessly amazed by the ease with which President Donald Trump can get his Democratic opponents to reveal what they really think about their constituents and their jobs as politicians. All he has to do is open his mouth, and the Democrats create the campaign ads for him.
It started with illegal immigrants, with Democrats pushing hard to keep the people who broke not only federal laws, but often committed violent crimes while here, in this country. Senator Chris Van Hollen went to El Salvador to meet with a deported illegal immigrant, Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Van Hollen has not visited with the families of Rachel Morin, or the unnamed 23-year-old woman, both of whom were murdered by illegal immigrants.
Being soft-on-crime is nothing new to Democrats, though. Earlier this year, I told you about California's Prop. 36, a tough-on-crime measure put on the ballot by concerned Californians. Governor Gavin Newsom opposed the measure, and Cali Dems tried unsuccessfully to block it from the ballot (so much for democracy, huh?).
So it was not shocking to me that Gavin would criticize President Trump's move to federalize D.C. and take over the failing police force. Newsome isn't alone. Tim Walz called the move the 'road to authoritarianism,' and if there's anyone who knows about being an authoritarian, it's the guy who let police pelt citizens with paintballs to enforce his COVID lockdown measures. Chris Murphy tried to blame the GOP and red states, but tripped over the inconvenient fact that crime in red states is courtesy of the Democrat-run blue cities.
Oops.
President Trump could announce tomorrow that he's a fan of breathing, and I swear the Left would put plastic bags over their heads to protest. Most of this is driven by a pathological oppositional defiance; if President Trump likes X, the Left will oppose it -- no matter what.
Yet we cannot overlook the glaringly obvious: this is what the modern Democratic Party is, and they're not changing any time soon. They welcome the chaos that comes with unfettered crime because it creates fertile ground for revolution.

Yes, we can, actually 'arrest our way out of crime.' If we apprehend criminals and put them in prison -- where they belong -- they're not going to reoffend.
After New York implemented its bail reform, just ten criminals were responsible for 500 arrests in New York City, and Mayor Adams noted that 38 criminals arrested for subway assaults were linked to over 1,100 other crimes in the Big Apple.
Rich, White, and affluent Leftists protested the move from the safety of their low-crime communities. Meanwhile, the victims of the D.C. crime Democrats refuse to address are overwhelmingly male (89%), Black (94.1%), and between the ages of 18-34 years old (62%).
Meanwhile, Democrats keep screaming that crime is down in D.C. It's not, and that's not me saying it, it's NBC News. D.C. police command staff ordered law enforcement to change crime statistics to show a decrease in crime where there was none:
The Metropolitan Police Department confirmed Michael Pulliam was placed on paid administrative leave in mid-May. That happened just a week after Pulliam filed an equal employment opportunity complaint against an assistant chief and the police union accused the department of deliberately falsifying crime data, according to three law enforcement sources familiar with the complaint.
The union claims police supervisors in the department manipulate crime data to make it appear violent crime has fallen considerably compared to last year.
Pulliam — the former commander of the 3rd District that patrols Adams Morgan and Columbia Heights — was placed on leave with pay and told he was under investigation for questionable changes to crime data, five law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation told News4.
That came about a week after he filed a complaint against Executive Assistant Chief of Police Andre Wright, according to three law enforcement sources familiar with the complaint.
This reality didn't stop the talking points from going out, of course.

Facts never stand in the way of a good Democratic Party narrative.
But let's do a logic exercise in all of this. What do Democrats think will happen when President Trump's plan works in D.C. (like it did at the border?). What do they think people who live in other crime-ridden cities will realize once they see President Trump finally take crime seriously, while Democrats tell people concerned about crime to 'go to Disney and get fat' instead?
Polls have shown that Democrats only have a single-digit advantage over Republicans in three age groups: women ages 30-49 and seniors ages 65+. Black and Hispanic voters shifted heavily to the right in November 2024. It's no coincidence given the overlap between D.C. crime victim demographics and GOP support.
Despite these shifting political winds, Democrats have decided to ignore this reality to pander to their AWFL and geriatric base.
Soon, people who live in Democratic-run cities will realize these irrefutable facts: Democrats not only like being soft-on-crime, but they also don't care about them or their communities.
President Trump has an uncanny ability to get the Democrats to let the mask slip, and they never miss an opportunity to do so.
And every time Democrats take the bait, they slip further down in the polls, and it's clear they don't care about improving their image. Nor do they have any interest in winning back the voters they keep losing. Maybe they don't even realize they're being gamed by President Trump, even if he's doing so unintentionally. Regardless, his ability to get Democrats to take the losing side on issues has evolved into an art form, and it's been incredibly revealing.
Anyway, have fun in the midterms, Democrats.
