Amy Klobuchar Tries to Dunk on SCOTUS for 'Disastrous' Rulings, Proves She Doesn't Know What Her Job Is

Democratic National Convention via AP

I propose, before being placed on the ballot, candidates for Congress be required to pass a basic civics test to prove they understand the functions of government and its three branches.

Might save them some embarrassment and us some time.

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar has no clue what her job is, or how government is supposed to work.

Which disastrous rulings, Senator? The 9-0 one in favor of the abortion pill?

I'm going to venture a guess that's not the one she's upset about.

It's more likely the bump stock ruling, a 6-3 decision that overturned a Trump-era ban on a device the government argued turned rifles into machine guns. In the Cliff's Notes version of this, the court found the government took very creative leeway with existing legislation to redefine what a machine gun is, and what a bump stock does, in order to ban the latter.

If we lived in a functioning, sane society (sadly, we no longer do), Senator Klobuchar would know what the majority opinion pointed out: Congress has the ability to pass legislation to clarify this issue.

The job of Congress is to pass legislation, in accordance with the Constitution. The job of the Supreme Court is to decide whether or not legislation passes Constitutional muster.

But for far too long, Congress has relied on the courts to do the legislating for them from the bench, rather than do their actual jobs.

Despite the media hammering polls that show gun control has popular support, legislation -- even when Democrats control Congress and the White House -- tends to be weak, if it gets proposed or passed at all.

Which tells us maybe those polls aren't exactly accurate.

But that's a topic for another post. The point is this: the Democrats know certain parts of their agenda are wildly unpopular, and would spell electoral doom if they actually passed legislation. So they punt and hope the courts will do their job for them.

Then, when the Supreme Court doesn't do their bidding, it's an illegitimate body who puts forth 'disastrous' rulings. The irony here is thick, given how the Left demands we must respect the courts and rulings after Trump was convicted in New York.

'Respect the rule of law!' they screamed. 'The court's are sacrosanct and never get anything wrong!'

Remember they're the ones who have called for criminal justice reform for years, saying the current system is inherently racist and unjust, but we're supposed to ignore this when it comes to Trump. Which is it? On Monday, the court is not to be questioned, but on Tuesday the court is illegitimate and should be ignored

Pick. One.

So -- when the court hands them a loss -- the only solution is to elect more Democrats who will appoint justices who will legislate from the bench or add more justices and pack the court with their ideological allies.

The solution, Senator Klobuchar, is very simple: propose legislation to change the rules regarding bump stocks. Put it to a vote. Go on record -- and make your fellow Democrats go on record -- as voting for or against that legislation.

And stop blaming the Supreme Court because you've failed to do your job.
