Tax-evading husband-shooting Ruby Garrett died aged 94 at Crest Nursing Home in Butte, Montana after leading a colourful life that involved two stints in jail.

She ran the Dumas Hotel brothel until 1982 when the town sheriff, Bob Butorovich, padlocked the doors for the last time while she was investigated for fraud. At its close the Dumas was America’s longest-running brothel.
