Mexico: Ten human heads discovered in state of Guerrero

The tweet and article describe the heads as “abandoned,” which is odd phraseology, but perhaps our Spanish isn’t very good. Our translation with the original beneath. From CNN Mexico:

Ten human heads, three women’s and seven men’s, were found this morning in the City of Teloapan, located in the northern part of the State of Guerrero, according to an official notice from the Secretary of Public Security and Civil Protection.

The heads were left outside of the city slaughterhouse, according to authorities.

After Chihuahua, Guerrero is the most violent state in the country, registering the highest number of organized crime-related murders, according to a report from the Office of the Mexican Attorney General. According to the federal government’s official analysis published in August 2010, what we’re witnessing is a confrontation between the Pacific Cartel and the criminal gang the Zetas.

(I’m not sure why the Pacificos, badly named, are a cartel, and the Zetas are a criminal gang, but there you have it).

The point is not to confront you, dear reader, with ugliness. Rather it’s to say, if it were here, there would be wall-to-wall coverage for days. In Mexico, not so much.
