FBI Director James Comey took question after question from members of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Thursday.
While many focused on Hillary Clinton’s emails and her conduct, a couple representatives devoted some or all of their time to totally unrelated issues. Couldn’t there have been a wiser use of their time?
Rep. Lacy Clay (D-Mo): Donald Trump, White Supremacists
Clay questioned Comey on the danger of white supremacist groups, and #whitegenocide appearing on twitter. He asked Comey for his thoughts on Donald Trump re-tweeting tweets by users who follow accounts which mention #whitegenocide. Clay never mentioned how white supremacist groups, Donald Trump, and Hillary Clinton’s emails were related.
Comey calmly reassured Clay that the growth of white supremacist groups was a concern.
Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ): Police Brutality
Watson Coleman complained to Comey about police brutality. While two tragic incidents occurred recently, they were not the topic of discussion in the hearing. Representative Elijah Cummings echoed her remarks.
Bonnie Watson Coleman has trouble staying on topic.#ComeyHearing https://t.co/a15aTQgPie

Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va): Trump and company
Connolly unleashed a tirade upon Donald Trump and the other Republicans in the room. He called the hearing “political theatre” and claimed it was an attempt to discredit Comey.
Is Connolly campaigning for Clinton or questioning Comey? Unsure. If someone can get back to me that would be great

Rep. John Mica (R-Fl): Hamilton musical

Representative John Mica tried to tie Hamilton’s Tony Award for choreography to the recent, strangely “choreographed” events such as the meeting between Bill Clinton and Attorney General Loretta Lynch.
Valiant effort by all to sidetrack the discussion, but those are beside point of this hearing. Congressman say the darndest things.
