When LaVonte Dell saw flashing lights in his rearview mirror, he knew that a Westland, Michigan police officer was pulling him over for his overly-tinted car windows. But he didn’t know that the officer would let him go without a ticket.
When Officer Joshua Scaglione looked inside the car, he noticed Dell’s three-year-old daughter Lauren was sitting in the backseat without a car seat. When Scaglione asked why, Dell explained that he had fallen on some “tough times.”
The officer then told Dell to follow him to Walmart, where he bought Lauren a car seat with his own money. WXYZ reported:
As they walked through the store, Dell says he didn’t feel like he was with a stranger. He felt like he was with someone who really cared.
“You would have thought we were best friends. No awkward silence. I learned about him. He learned about me,” says Dell.
“He seems like blue collar hard working guy who was doing the best he could for his family,” says Officer Scaglione.
When the two men parted ways, Dell realized he hadn’t even asked the officer’s name. That’s when he took to Facebook to publicize the unknown officer’s good deed. Westland Police Community Partnership saw the post and shared it to their own page and identified Good Samaritan Scaglione. The post has gone viral with over 17,000 likes.
