Greg Pollowitz, Twitchy's 'rock', has passed away after fight with leukemia

It is with the heaviest of hearts we announce the passing of Twitchy’s Managing Editor, Greg Pollowitz.

Greg was our rock and always kept a steady head regardless of what the news (or Twitter) threw at us. He was the person people looked to when they had questions about our site, an article, a fellow editor … you name it. Approachable, kind, with an easy laugh and a good heart, Greg served as a reminder of what is great about Twitchy. He was a dedicated leader who inspired and supported all of us to be our best, every day.

And we will miss his leadership and easy laugh, every day.

‘I worked with Greg for several years and he was one of the funniest and most helpful co-workers I’ve ever had. I’ll miss him and our IM banter while working on stories. Greg will be greatly missed but always fondly remembered.’ – Doug Powers, Editor

‘I’m honestly not quite sure what to say. I’m going to miss Greg. I’m going to miss his sense of humor and I’m going to miss his tweets and I’m going to miss chatting with him about dumb politicians doing dumb things. I’m going to miss him asking how me and my family are doing.

We never had a chance to meet in person, which I regret because (A) I wanted to get to meet the guy I’d been Twitter buddies with for so long and (B) I wanted to see for myself that there was a way-more-than-six-feet-tall guy named Pollowitz, because that’s not something you see every day. But mostly I just wanted to meet a guy I knew was a good dude.

You were a good dude, Greg. I’m grateful to have known you, and I hope you’re having fun up there. Put in a good word for me.

Love, Sarah’ – Sarah D., Editor

‘I always felt kinship with Greg as the other “night guy”; he’d cover for me on my nights off and I knew he’d have something great waiting for me in the morning. I’ll miss Greg and his tweets, which always struck a nerve with the right people.’ – Brett, Editor.

‘No matter how insane a day was, Greg always managed to keep me grounded. One of my favorite memories will always be when a certain someone’s manager was mad at me over something I wrote (I know, shocking) so he ‘told on me’ to Greg, as if Greg were my boss. He thought this was rather funny, especially when he told this manager they would have to take it up with me. Greg would spend far too many days having to look out for me, but he never complained or said an unkind thing – he would just laugh. Oh, and who could forget the fire ant story that went crazy viral? That was just pure Greg. He always had a way of balancing out the crazy, and no matter what, he was always there. We have a huge hole in our Twitchy heart today.’ – Sam Janney, Managing Editor

‘I can’t believe he’s gone. He was so positive and optimistic throughout his cancer fight.  All of us are going to deeply miss Greg’s humor, tenacity and leadership at Twitchy and Townhall. He was always willing to try new things, think differently about the news and lend a helping hand to his colleagues whenever it was needed. It’s rare to find so many good qualities in single person. Greg’s passing leaves a hole in our hearts.’ – Jonathan Garthwaite, SVP & Publisher, Townhall Media

‘Greg was one of my absolute favorite people to work with. A great patriot to his core, taken from his family and this world way too soon. One of the most loyal, loving guys you’ll ever meet. He always was ready to do battle, in his work and in life — and he did for so long valiantly with cancer. We’ll so greatly miss him and his big smile and jokes that would always make the room cry in laughter. Rest in Peace Greg.’ – Storm Paglia, VP Brand Operations

‘Greg was a wonderful colleague and a pleasure to work with. He was always looking to further Twitchy’s mission, contribute new ideas, and share his valuable political insight, all while courageously battling cancer. Through it all, he never lost his great sense of humor and kindness toward others. We will all miss him dearly, and my thoughts and prayers are with his family and those who loved him most.‘ – Micah Rate, Operations Manager
