Sen. John Cornyn dismisses immigration critic with snide ad hominem attack

Mark Krikorian is Executive Director of the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS). Earlier this afternoon he posted a link to an article in National Review criticizing the HUMANE Act, which is co-sponsored by Sen. John Cornyn:

Krikorian, in fact, has tweeted criticism of Cornyn’s bill repeatedly:

Sen. Cornyn’s verified Twitter account responded with this ad hominem attack:

Yes, Mark Krikorian draws a paycheck. So does every other professional immigration analyst. Even Sen. Cornyn gets paid. What does any of that have to do with the quality of Krikorian’s arguments and analysis?

Krikorian, to his credit, responded calmly with this question:

According to the CIS Backgrounder linked above, Cornyn’s bill “is deeply flawed and, contrary to the legislative sponsors’ intentions, will lead to additional (and quite possibly substantial) flows of families and juveniles arriving at our southern border in the future.”

If Cornyn disagrees with that assessment, he (or his anonymous social media staffer?) should explain why rather than lamely and condescendingly lashing out at Krikorian for earning a living.
